I don't often proclaim a cover as better than the original, especially when it comes to a classic like Primal Scream's "Higher Than the Sun". However, Natasha Khan absolutely gives me goosebumps with this cover. Her vocals blend seamlessly with vocals from Fionn Regan and sublime instrumental accompaniment by Maps. This was performed live at Maida Vale studios on the BBC program "In The Company Of" on August 30, 2007, featuring three of this year's Mercury Award nominees. I can't wait for this song to get an officially release. It showcases the talent of Natasha vocally and on the piano. This was performed on the BBC program "The Culture Show" on February 10, 2007. - Bat For Lashes - What's a Girl To Do? (video)

Bat For Lashes - Fur and Gold
Bat For Lashes is led by the alluring and very talented Natasha Khan. On this album, there are shades of Cat Power, PJ Harvey, Tori Amos, Kate Bush (sans vocal range), and Joanna Newsom (but less nasal). The album is dense and idiosyncratic; but it's not weird for the sake of being weird. The mysterious journey is beautiful and well worth it for the listener. There is an eerie atmosphere and haunting complexity that permeates the album. The songs are heavy and introspective but not morose. Highlights include "Trophy", "Sarah", "Horse & I", " Prescilla", "The Wizard", and "What's a Girl To Do?"(which is also one of the coolest videos of 2007).
