Aimee Anne Duffy is a Welsh singer who has stirred a lot of buzz in the UK after her performance on Later with Jools Holland. Her soulful voice inevitably draws unfair comparisons to Dusty Springfield. Her Bridget Bardot style looks also won't hurt her on the road to stardom. She's already selling out most shows in the UK and will likely be a Mercury Prize front-runner and this year's Amy Winehouse type UK export (minus the crack pipe).
Speaking of Jools Holland, his 200th show is coming up on Feb 1. It features a blockbuster lineup that's worth recording: Radiohead, Dionne Warwick, Mary J. Blige, Cat Power, Robyn Hitchcock, and Feist. Wow. Since I don't get BBC2 on RCN, I'm gonna hafta find a torrent of this after the fact.
Human Tetris (video), Ellen Page sings about Diablo Cody (video), Gnarls Barkley - Run, Jay-Z - Ain't I, more
- The Original Human Tetris
This is the coolest video I've seen this year. If you like this, also check out Human Pole Position, Space Invaders, and Pong - Ellen Page sings a song about Diablo Cody
100% E Page. - There's still ample opportunity to download Gnarls Barkley's awesome new tune "Run".
- Nah Right has a link to a new Jay-Z song ripped off a DJ Clue mixtape: "Ain’t I"
- What to Expect From the Upcoming Vampire Weekend Backlash
Hilarious stuff. - Double Dipping: The Costanza Debate Continues
A scientific investigation of the health effects of double dipping. That's like putting your whole mouth right in the dip! Your NIH grant dollars at work. Of course, this post would not be complete without a link to the Seinfeld double dip scene

This is an update on my prior post regarding one of my favorite tunes of the year thus far. This is a high quality version of the Bassline Radio Edit. Did I mention how fine Kcat is?

Not sure how I missed this last year, but it's an absolutely hilarious cover and video. The Jenny Lewis-like cheekiness is a big plus. - Discobelle points us to a neato remix featuring Snoop and Robyn: Snoop Dogg (ft. Robyn) - Sexual Eruption (Fyre Department remix). Looking forward to a white label, or better yet, an official release. Quite a tasty collabo.
- Leona Lewis - Bleeding Love (video)
If UK trends are any indication, Leona Lewis is set to blow up in the US when her album drops stateside in April. She has a gorgeous voice and Alicia Keys type potential. - Songwriting in your blood? Need help jump-starting your latest album? Axl Rose, I'm looking in your direction. There are two musical challenges this month of note for aspiring songwriters/musicians:
February Album Writing Month
Participants who complete the requirements (14 songs written during February) and donate $10 to the FAWM cause will get free CD distribution via CD Baby.
RPM Challenge '08
The goal is to record 10 songs or 35 minutes of original material during February. Not sure what the benefits are, but they made an RPM film last year and have a jukebox with songs from all 850 participants last year. - Arcade at the Movies
A look at arcade games as they have appeared in movies throughout the years. An interesting retrospective.

Destroyer - Foam Hands (live in Calgary, video)
Destroyer's eagerly anticipated LP "Trouble in Dreams" is due out in March. As with most Destroyer songs, I have no idea what it's about. Perhaps it's about waning religious fervor or infatuation. It's lovely nonetheless. - Hot Chip - Ready for the Floor (video)
Awesome video for one of my favorite songs of the new year thus far. Love the paint and Two-Face get-up. - Cassettes Won’t Listen - Paper Float (MP3)
This is the first single off the forthcoming EP "Small Time Machine" by multi-instrumentalist Jason Drake, better known as Casettes Won't Listen. - From Luna to Dean & Britta
Dean Wareham takes us through the bittersweet anatomy of his divorce. Britta, you homewrecker! - Vampire Weekend performs the following, live in the streets of Paris: Mansard Roof, The Kids Don't Stand A Chance, Walcott, and One in the streets.
- Ghostface not feelin' the piracy
If it makes you feel any better, I didn't download your album.

Coachella Lineup
The Coachella Lineup has been announced. Headliners include: Portishead (finally back on tour), Kraftwerk (!), Roger Waters (!), Death Cab For Cutie, M.I.A., The National, Tegan and Sara, The Breeders, The Verve (yay, can you reunite Pulp, too?), My Morning Jacket, Spiritualized, Rilo Kiley, Animal Collective, Cold War Kids, Metric, and Justice, among many others. Big disappointment that My Bloody Valentine is not on the roster. Come to Chicago instead for Lollapalooza? I can dream. More Coachella info.

Basia Bulat - In The Night (video)
OMG, Basia Bulat is so adorable in this video! How can you resist a march of dancing bears, skeletons, foxes, and harlequins? This might be my new favorite Basia Bulat song. I can't wait for the US release of 'Oh, My Darling'. The Canadian import was was on my list of top albums last year but, sadly, this terrific new song wasn't on that album. I hope she has some more surprises for us on the stateside release.

Vampire Weekend Music Videos and MTV Spanking New Sessions (video)
- Vampire Weekend - A-Punk (video)
This video is spastic, silly and highly enjoyable. It fits the song perfectly. Might I interest y'all in some Ritalin. - Vampire Weekend - Mansard Roof (video)
I've posted this video before, but here it is again. Gotta love the ripped-off Godard title card and preppy yacht jam session. - Vampire Weekend - Cape Cod Kwasa Kwasa (MTV spanking new sessions video)
Do you remember when MTV used to have music videos? Neither do I. That's why these sessions were a pleasant surprise when I stumbled upon them. (Well, they're actually originally hosted at mtv.co.uk). - Vampire Weekend - Oxford Comma (MTV spanking new sessions video)
Lil' Jon, he always tells the truth - Vampire Weekend - Mansard Roof (MTV spanking new sessions video)

- Hot Chip - Made in the Dark | mirror (MP3)
Wait, this sounds waaay slow for Hot Chip. It's Hot Chip on ludes. But I still like it. I'm interested in hearing what they have in store for us on their new LP of the same title. - King Khan & the Shrines - 69 Faces of Love | mirror (MP3)
King Khan & the Shrines - No Regrets | mirror (MP3)
King Khan & the Shrines are a band that I regrettably overlooked last year. Fans of Television and The Animals might find this to be right up their alley. - Mark Brown feat. Sarah Cracknell - The Journey Continues (video)
Fans of Saint Etienne will dig Sarah Cracknell's contribution to this song produced by Mark Brown. It should be familiar to UK listeners since the hook was taken from a Lloyds TSB bank ad. - This West African miracle fruit makes lemons taste like sugar. I've got to find me and grow me some of these.
