Turntablist band Birdy Nam Nam, Bill and Ted Musical, more
- Birdy Nam Nam are the 2002 DMC World Team Champion turntablists. These 4 DJs (Little Mike, DJ
Pone, DJ Need, and Crazy B) who each play their turntable as an instrument. Their sound as a turntablist band is rather cohesive and intriguing. They provide 3 videos for your viewing and listening enjoyment. - Bill and Ted's Excellent Musical Adventure
I had no idea this existed as a musical. It ran in Edinburgh, although the producers did not have licensing rights. Enjoy tracks from the show and read the script! My favorite is the Grim Reaper rap. "I'm The King", which has a bit of Doug E Fresh 'The Show' flava to it. - Candy Bars - Violets
Candy Bars - Enough to Choke a Cold Air
A semisweet outer coating of chocolate with a complex caramel nougat hidden in the middle. Such is the aural experience of The Candy Bars, a unique blend of baroque pop and psychedelia. - Salon has Three Questions for Karen O

AOL invites Paul Wall to evaluate celebrity grillz, New Radio Dept. video, MyDeathSpace, more
- Amazingly, AOL has some entertaining material once in a blue moon.
(The sun shines on a dog's ass sometimes.)
AOL puts grillz on different pop musicians. Then Paul Wall gets to evaluate the grillz.
Check out Britney's grill!
And here's Kelly Clarkson. Yikes. Sorry for that one, folks. - The Radio Dept. has a new video entitled 'The Worst Taste in Music' [thanks]
This song preserves the usual Radio dept.-esque dream-like qualities with a wistful tone. The protagonist ponders the following: what if the one you love has the worst taste in music? - Where do MySpace users go when they die? MyDeathSpace.com
Morbid and creepy stuff. I wonder what the families will think. - iPod update: Setting the maximum volume limit on iPod
- Google accidentally deletes their own blog
Makes me worried about all blogspot blogs. - Mexican Coke vs. American Coke
I'm talking about the cola. They apparently use sugar cane extract instead of corn syrup. I'mma hafta try it out.

Mash-ups: Gnarls Barkley vs. Prince, Oasis vs. LCD Soundsystem, more MP3s, Snakes on a Plane mp3, Britney Spears sculpture, more
- Wtf, is this an MP3 blog or not?
Ok, ok. Here are a few to sate your appetite. Some old, some new; 100% fun.- Gnarls Barkley vs. Prince
Oh yeah, you know this one is gonna be hot. "Crazy" vs. "Sign 'O' The Times". One of my favorite mashes this year. From team9- Oasis "Wonderwall" vs. LCD Soundsystem "Tribulations"
Hot mash-up from Aggro1 - Snakes on a Plane - Samuel L. Jackson monologue
Snakes on a Plane is going to be a craptastic spectacle to rival Manos, The Hands of Fate. Sounds like he delivers another classic line (if this clip, is in fact him)."That's it! I've had it with these motherf*cking snakes on this motherf*cking plane! Everybody strap in! I'm about to open some f*cking windows."
- Art irritates life: Statue of nude Britney Spears giving birth

Yo T.O. raps, New Stills, Sucky Kanye Mission Impossible 3 theme, more
- T.O. has joined the ranks of those who should never touch a microphone
He is in the rap garbage heap with Ron Artest, K-Fed, and Shaq. Listen at your own peril. - The Stills - In the Beginning
This is from their forthcoming album, "Without Feathers". This song is brighter and less brooding than their previous stuff. Musically, it's a step forward. However, the lyrics could still use some work. - ONTD has the sucky purported Kanye West Mission Impossible 3 theme
- Nevada Trying to Ban Hip-Hop from College Campuses?
- Judge: RIAA Can't Hunt Through Everyone's Computers
- Pac Man: The Insatiable Hunger
This is a great pseudobiographical Pac-Man spoof. He's an unapologetic deadbeat. Don't miss Qbert at the end (the videogame character, not the DJ)!

Match Day!
Today is March 16th, aka Match Day, when thousands of 4th year medical students find out where they have matched for residency. The way that the match works is that after we apply to and interview at residency programs that are interested in us, we rank our preferred programs from 1 to whatever, and the programs also rank applicants from 1 to whatever. A computer program in DC then crunches the lists of info and matches all of us into the theoretically optimal residency based on the program's preference and our preference. I am ecstatic to learn that I have matched at the University of Chicago, so I'll be moving to Chicago next year!
So, if you get sick at Solider Field, U.S. Cellular Field, or somewhere else on the South Side, you might see me in the hospital *shudder*.

KRS-One vs. Celtic music mashup, Will Ferrell is NOT dead, Axl Rose vs. Starbury, Magnet - Fall At Your Feet (video), more
- DJ BC - Da Sound of Da Irish Police Band
Just in time for St. Patty's Day, scroll down on the page and check out the hilarious but well-done mashup of KRS-One's 'Hip Hop v. Rap" with Celtic music. - Will Ferrell is NOT dead
Although there was a newswire story in Google News (shown above) claiming that he had died in a paragliding accident. Google News needs to clean up their sources. Sheesh. Looks like somebody punk'd I-Newswire.com and Google News.
About the hoax - Axl Rose knocks over Stephon Marbury
This was in Monday's Page Six:"The fascinatingly mercurial GUNS N' ROSES frontman [Axl Rose] fled club Stereo late Thursday night after a drunken fan inadvertently spat in his eye. Axl, sporting braids in a ponytail and looking puffy in a white sweater, was tolerating the sloppy dude's boozy line of questioning until some spittle landed on his contacts. 'Axl started yelling, 'My [bleep]ing eyes! My contacts,' reports our spywitness. 'He became irate. He ran out of the club with one eye closed and knocked over Stephon Marbury on his way out the door. He left his whole entourage behind.' The eye-closing experience was the final stop of the night for the easily enraged Rose."
- Magnet, - Fall At Your Feet (video)
Fall At Your Feet is a lovely song, but I'm not a fan of the choppy style of editing in this vid. - NIH says that portable music hearing risk needs more study

Arctic: Music from Canada's Northwest Territories, Metric video, SXSW Torrents, Chef to quit South Park, more
- Arctic
Marcus Martin is the brains behind Arctic. Drawing from his childhood experiences in the arctic region of Canada's Northwest Territories, his haunting music transcends ordinary folk/rock with layers of beautiful acoustic guitar, subtle synthesized sounds, and sublime pedal effects.
Arctic - Some One Turning
Arctic - Launching Pad - Metric - Poster of a Girl (video)
Some videos just perfectly capture the vibe of a song. This is one such example. Plus you get to see Emily in her skivvies. - Check out SXSW Torrents for all their MP3s [via]
713 MP3s (part 1) | 229 MP3s (part 2)
Btw, for those of you using BitTorrent, I highly recommend Azureus, which has revolutionized my experience with torrents. It is probably the best torrent front-end becuase it is open-source and highly customizable. For me, it brings back the warm fuzzy days of Napster and eDonkey/Overnet. - Isaac Hayes to quit "South Park", citing religious intolerance

Feds Bust Fans For Pirated Ryan Adams Tunes
Feds Bust Fans For Pirated Ryan Adams TunesThis is the first indictment under the Family Entertainment and Copyright Act (FECA) act [had a better ring to it than the Federal Haul Your Teen/College Kid Off To A Federal Pound-Me-In-The-Ass Prison Act] for pre-release material. Needless to say, this is a dark day for music bloggers and music fans everywhere. Excerpt from the article:
If convicted on all counts, the defendants each face a potential of 11 years in prison. The case was investigated by FBI agents and is being prosecuted by the Computer Hacking and Intellectual Property Section of the United States Attorney's Office.
Recording Industry Association of America chairman and CEO Mitch Bainwol said the indictments were particularly gratifying as they come from the heart of music country.
"Prerelease piracy is a particularly damaging and onerous form of theft," he said. "It robs artists of the chance to sell their music before it even hits the streets or becomes legally available online, and the ripple effects are felt far and wide throughout the entire music community -- especially when that theft strikes in Nashville, the very heart of our industry.
U.S. Constitution: Eighth Amendment
Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.
I hope the EFF gets involved, with subsequent federal court and hopefully Supreme Court challenges.
Jenny Lewis live on KCRW (video), Fugees on Dave Chappelle's Block Party, Chuck Norris facts video
- Jenny Lewis with the Watson Twins live on KCRW
This is a lovely studio performance. Jenny Lewis' voice is crisp and evocative, like it is on the album. Unfortunately, this video is in poopy Real Video format. Aired 3/10/06 via KCRW. - ONTD has the Fugees live on Dave Chappelle's Block Party, where they perform the classics 'Nappy Heads' and 'Killing Me Softly'. Nice to see them reunited. Hopefully, Ms. Hill can get over herself and start making some music.
- More YouTube fun: Chuck Norris reads Chuck Norris facts
NPR Shows (Belle and Sebastian, New Pornographers, CYHSY), Radiohead cover + Graffiti animation
- NPR has recordings of some great recent live shows in DC:
Belle and Sebastian show (3-6-06)
The New Pornographers show (3-6-06), which has also been nicely broken down into individual tracks at So Much Silence | part 2
NPR also has the Clap Your Hands Say Yeah audio (3-8-06) - Mark Ronson feat. Alex Greenwald - Just
This is the video for "Just" by Mark Ronson feat. Alex Greenwald. Yes, it's a Radiohead cover (from 'The Bends'), with a twist! While the Radiohead version is better, this video has graffiti animation that jumps to life in front of you and is quite a treat. - Another random YouTube: the final scene from the movie 'Seven' re-enacted by stuffed animals. The 303s - Beyond the Lines (MP3)
The 303s - Beyond the Lines
Imagine Mommy and Daddy (the electro-punk group) with the noise turned down but the rhythm ramped up to a frenetic pace; add a touch of shoegazer pop. The double espresso effect wears off at around 4:00 and melts into a sublime, contemplative coda.

Kelly Clarkson - Walk Away (video)
Kelly Clarkson - Walk Away (video)
I wonder how much practice she needed to really get into those hip gyrations. Not feeling the belly-bearing trenchcoat outfit or the big pinned-back hair.

Grab Bag: Lady Sovereign, The Sounds, Coldcut, Calexico, Mogwai, Scandinavian bands at SXSW (MP3s, audio, video)
Lady Sovereign - Mizz Beats featuring Skepta, JME, Ears, Jammer & Baby Blue (Adidas Hoodie Remix)This grimey song will really jolt you out of the afternoon doldrums.
The Sounds - Song With a Mission
This video was filmed in Cuba. I didn't know Maja looked so yummy under the sweltering sun.
Coldcut - True Skool
This song is bubble gummy but funky fresh. Trippy video too.
Calexico - Cruel
Mogwai - Folk Death 95
Here's a spotlight on Scandinavian bands at SXSW.
Pearl Jam - World Wide Suicide (MP3)
Pearl Jam - World Wide Suicide (MP3)The new Pearl Jam is actually pretty darn good. Maybe it's just me, but I hear shades of The Strokes (at least in the chorus).

SNL - Natalie Portman raps!
YouTube was forced to take down the videos. =(
mirror
Damn! Who knew Natalie Portman had such a potty mouth! This rap is the sort of nastiness you'd expect to hear from Lady Sovereign or Lil' Kim. Natalie discusses sex, drinking, drugs, DUI, being a role model, and her shady Harvard days. Also starring Andy Samberg and Chris Parnell. OMG, this is soooo funny. "Natalie, my d^&* is scared of you."

Mos Def - Universal Magnetic (live at dave chappelle's block party)
Mos Def - Universal Magnetic (live at dave chappelle's block party)There are quite a few rave reviews for Dave Chappelle's Block Party. With the mere fact that Dave Chappelle and Michel Gondry are involved, I don't know why I would need any more motivation to go see it. The soundtrack comes out next week. On this track, Mos Def flows with a quite bit of energy and gives respect to Chappelle for making this spontaneous event of musical magic and feel-goodness possible. Other treats on the soundtrack: The Roots feat. Big Daddy Kane and Kool G Rap, Talib Kweli, and a nifty, dubby version of 'You Got Me' with the Roots, Erykah Badu, and Jill Scott.
