Prodigy - Voodoo People (pendulum remix, video)
(Note: this is XviD encoded)

After their disappointing LP release last year (which I truthfully mostly ignored), there are some remixes of old songs coming up receiving quite a bit of buzz. This one in particular by Pendulum is a solid dnb mix that features members of the Prodigy and blindfolded people running some kind of race. Thanks, Breakzblog for the scoop.

Brian Wilson Dialing Up Katrina Donors, Madden glitch causes shrinkage, NYT on CYHASY

Brian Wilson Dialing Up Katrina Donors
Wow, I already donated money for relief. But this is a tempting offer. At least a $100 donation, which Brian will match, will buy you a phone call from the legend of rock himself (until October 1). He's gonna have a massive phone bill.

Here's his post verbatim from his site:
I want to personally thank Iowa Jim for his post the other night challenging me to call him. Out of his post came a cool idea that my wife and I want to run by you. Jim challenged me to call him up, because he did not believe that it was me posting. He told me if I did he would make a donation to a charity for me. I didn't think I needed to prove anything other than at times I like to talk with you guys. Anyway, Melinda and I were discussing his post that night at dinner and we came up with a great idea. So here's the cool part. As most of you know Jerry Boyd has been collecting donations for the Hurricane victims who have been left homeless and in shelters. He told us at this point he has collected around $4,000. and many of you have send items too. He is grateful, but we want to make a bigger difference. Here's my challenge, for anyone who sends Jerry a donation of $100.00 or more, I will call you personally and answer a question that you may have, or just say hello or whatever. Also, my wife and I will match the donation. I know that this may not work for all of you, but anything that you can afford will help and I will match it. You can contact Jerry Boyd at djsurfclown@bellsouth.net and he can tell you how to proceed from there. I hope we can all have some fun with this and raise lots of money. L&M Brian P.S. Melinda is typing this for me and says hi! We will keep this challenge going until Oct. 1 and I am available to call you between 7:00 a.m. and 9:30 p.m. Pacific time.

The Yeah Yeah Yeahs book: I Hope You Are All Happy Now

I Hope You Are All Happy Now

Just received my promo copy in the mail. "I Hope You Are All Happy Now" is an engrossing visual collage of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs put together by their guitarist, Nick Zinner. It chronicles their day-to-day lives on the road and their bumpy rise to fame. It's offbeat and spontaneous, as only an insider's perspective can provide. If a picture is worth a thousand words, the photos of nearly every YYY crowd, torn-up hotel rooms, and anything else in particular that caught Zinner's eye are certainly worth a few million. It also features essays by acclaimed indie director Jim Jarmusch, comedian David Cross, and a Q&A session with Vice magazine editor Jessee Pearson.

"Strange proof of my last four years, it looks so easy, almost desirable through his eye. It's up to the individual to discern what's real, what's legit, what to trust, what to go with . . . If Nick can see things as he does in this terribly immediate and beautiful book of photographs why can't I, or you?" --KAREN O / YEAH YEAH YEAHS

Valley Lodge - All Of My Lovin

Valley Lodge - All Of My Lovin'
No, it's not a Beatles cover. And it's not a cover of Buddy Holly's 'Oh Boy', although the chorus borrows from the first line of that song's first verse. It is a catchy slice of indie rock/pop that reminds me of a mix of The Replacements, Soul Asylum, and something 80s-ish I can't put my finger on. Thanks, Dave.

Due to the on going weather situation in Texas ‘Tegan and Sara’ will not be participating in Austin City Limits this weekend. How to beat carny games!

"For the dime toss game, where you try to land a dime or other coin on a glass plate placed several feet back from where the mark stands, the winning ingredient is saliva."

"For knocking over milk jugs games, most players mistakently aim for the intersection of the 3 jugs, which means striking the bottom 2 at the top of the jug.  problem is, the jugs have a couple pounds of lead in the bottom, making them behave like weebles.  if you can hit the base of the bottom 2 jugs you have a much better chance of success."and more!

Yeah, more Katrina, and Franz Ferdinand

Incredible photo gallery of Katrina.
This survivor's first-hand digital picture account gives a clearer picture of how things got from not-so-bad to really bad: from the calm in the eye of the storm, the immediate hurricane aftermath, the flooding afterwards, the looting, and the truck that the guy stole to escape. I think the media and government accounts are misleading and most of the talking heads actually have no idea what happened.

A little birdie told me that the new FF has leaked here. Sample it then buy it; or fight the urge and wait till October (like that's gonna happen). All I'll say for now is that it's an impressive follow-up LP, easily one of my favorites of the year (yeah, it's that good). Even though I love Metric and BSS, I'd rank this above each of their respective latest albums. I hear Iggy Pop, Billy Idol, Gang of Four, and Beatles influences throughout; however, they don't abandon their fun, dancy post-punk revival style. I think that Rolling Stone and NME will drool all over this one. After you sample it, you can pre-order it below.
